Let me preface this by saying that I have enjoyed your comic, and I hope that your funding efforts bear fruit.
I have no real experience with Patreon, but it feels like the reward tiers are more geared towards a Kickstarter then Patreon. Specifically, the higher payment tiers offer things that would appear to be one time rewards, but which you are leveraging as part of a continuing monthly payment. For example, at the low end, I could pay you $15 a month for all the comics in the store, get the comics and then cancel. This would be cheaper than paying 15 euro for the bundle in the store page. Alternatively, I could pledge for the highest tier just as I was heading to Tokyo, claim the reward, and then cancel funding afterwards. Food and drink in Tokyo is expensive, but you'd likely still come out ahead given the cost of those tiers even for a single month. However, it may not be as profitable as you were hoping.
@Dude with Down: Curiously, its uploaded as patron content. XD
@minigendo: I get your point, and I have to say that Im quite naive in that sense. I mean, of couse people could do that, and, for example, in the case you state about tokyo it would be the most logic thing to do! Although im taking each one out (and treating) only once.
Well, if i enjoy it, maybe we could take a walk around Akihabara, introduce you to my friends here and go get drunk another day or something. XDDD
But I do trust readers of Eatatau, I rely on the fact that they like to read the comic and that they are patronizing to support it and make it grow, and not to take advantage of it. I can understand that people aim to high rewards the first time, specially from 50$ on, but at the very end, they pledge as much as they want, and probably, after getting the rewards, or after coming to japan, they will stay at 5$, if they want the NSFW contents, or at 20-40$ if they want the advanced stripes. Thats fine for me if its for you. Its my comic, but its your money, after all! ^-^
Anyway, as i told you, im quite a noob and naive peerson (i dont even write "I" with capital letters and still use smily icons! XDDD), i guess i will learn with time, but so far, i prefer to trust eatatau readers.
Matter of great importance
This sounds tempting but there is one thing that must be answered. As we have seen that there are boobies (hail the boobies), but will there be butt? The kind of butt that makes the viewer go from 'meh' to 'Dat Ass!' in a second?
@Darius: to be honest, I'm not going to be a patron for you. The question "Why?" is answered easily: first of all I think that the overall-quality of your art is decreasing. Second I'm surprised that all you think of lately is money. Almost the only free thing is the main comic, all surroundings have to be paid for - like a DLC (and some of the patron prices could be from EA; not much content but a buttload of money)
Well, as i said, im not forcing anybody into patronizing Eatatau. If you want to support it without paying, there are many ways i do appreciate too as, for example, linking it into forums, telling your friends about it, or even leaving some feedback in the comments. ^-^
When I started drawing Eatatau, I was a college student of arts. This mean I had a lot of time to do stuff, and even use some of the pics and designs as proyects for college.
When I graduated, I run out of time. Suddenly I had to work and study other things at the same time, so I had to decide between closing Eatatau as a whole, or keeping it at minimun, so the galleries stopped uploading contents.
Some time after that, I finished a middle term job and a the spanish language teaching course i was doing, and got again some time to draw more things, but instead of making free pics again, and i had had some feedback about the lack of background of the comic, I started to make other kind of contents such as side stories, and subplots, and created a shop as a mean to get some compensation out of the time invested on them.
Now, almost five years after launching eatatau, and more than two with the shop opened, with so many people willing to support it, i though Eatatau could give another step and give that people willing to support it the means to do so, and of course to reward them.
As I said before, I`m not selling stuff in patreon as I do in the shop. The patrons support Eatatau, and in exchange, they get my thanks in form of exclusive contents. For people may be no difference at all with a shop, but for me there is, and a huge one.
Some patrons even refused any kind of reward for their support, and I think that`s awesome and really touches me.
Anway, im still starting it, but on time, some of the patreon content will get old, and will be uploaded to the Eatatau galleries, so, eventually, it will be a win-win relationship between patreon and smackjeeves content. ;)
