This miniarc will end next week and text will come back... even though I dont like it.
Yup. I dont like reading long explicative texts in comics. I was taugh (and so I think myself) that in a comic, the action has to be explained with the drawings only, and text is needed only for explaining things that cannot be explained with the drawings, therefore, for me, the more text a comic needs, the worse the drawing skills of the author.
There is a rule in comic that can be used to tell apart a good comic from a bad comic called "The rule of 4 lines" It`s something like "a text bubble can have a max of 4 lines inside, being 3 the best amount".
The amount of bubbles in a square pic is also a good measure of quality. Huge or many bubbles that blocks the view of the pictures under them are indicative of a poorly planned pic.
Personally I tend to stop reading when I see a full conversation condensed in a single frame. It turns the reading flow into something absurd and tedious that a comic should never be. Remember that comic is not about pictures, but about flow. What happens between frames is more important than the frames themselves.
Of course, there are great graphic novels like Sandman, V for Vendetta etc this theories cannot be applied to, but in general, they worked for me so far.
I think I just bookmarked this page for future reference, in case I end up making comics. That... seems to be something I just did. Somehow. For some reason.
Anyway, the page itself... speculation time! That kid is now possessed and is gonna jump onto their mother and tear her throat out before going to hunt down the other civilians. We're reading a horror webcomic now!
